This person is responsible for the caring, efficient, effective, safe, legal, and financially sustainable operation of the Mt. Carmel Childcare Center (MCCC).
PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS
The lead pastor of Mt Carmel is the direct supervisor for this position. The Director is also accountable to the Childcare Center Board of Directors and indirectly to the Congregation Council and the Personnel Committee of the church. Additionally, the Director will work closely with the Church Administrator. The Director will be the direct supervisor of the Childcare Center staff. The Director must also relate to the Childcare families and to the appropriate licensing authorities who oversee the work of the Childcare Center
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Childcare Staff
- Hires, supervises and directs Childcare Center staff members and volunteers, including scheduling, staff development, monitoring and recording continuing education requirements, and conducting yearly staff performance appraisals.
- Administers the personnel policies of the church for Childcare staff and communicates those policies and procedures to employees.
Childcare Program
- Maintains a Childcare program that respects each individual child and reflects the Christian values of the congregation.
- Maintains enrollment to ensure that tuition income meets budget.
- Maintains compliance with any regulatory licensing or inspection requirements (Childcare licensing, Board of Health, Fire Code, CPR, First Aid, etc.). Copies of all licenses or certificates shall be available for review.
- Plans and prepares quarterly curriculum to be reviewed regularly by the Board.
- Maintains a parent handbook to communicate program policies and procedures per Rule 3 of State licensing requirements.
- Provides at least weekly communication to childcare families concerning Childcare Center activities and information.
- Offers and conducts parent conferences according to need and licensing requirements.
- Works with the church Coordinator and Childcare Treasurer to manage the financial and business affairs of the Childcare Center and provides financial reports for the Board.
- Prepare timely communications for parish-wide publications.
- Provides for optional enrichments, including Childcare Chapel for families who desire to participate.
Childcare Board of Directors
- Provides executive leadership for the Board and the Board President and Vice President and assists the Board in its responsibilities of oversight of the childcare program, visioning, planning, and Childcare Center policy development and implementation.
- Attends monthly Board meetings. Prepares written reports on staffing, enrollment, program issues, and other data or information requested by the Board
- With assistance from the Board, prepares a periodic survey to obtain input from parents on the Childcare Center operations.
- Works with the Board in planning and conducting periodic fundraising events (pizza sale, bread sale, or similar).
Other Responsibilities
- Establishes an environment of cooperation and good will among the Childcare Center staff, and between them and the Childcare Center Board members and the Church and staff.
- Completes other assignments as given by the Board of Directors.
- Fulfills obligations of a mandated reporter of Child Abuse or Neglect. Report any suspicions of this to supervisor or Child Protection as necessary.
- Maintains all confidential information according to data privacy laws, including any identifying information about other children.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a background study completed through the Background Studies Division of Minnesota Department of Human Services (NETStudy 2.0)
- Must have a high school graduate degree or equivalent (GED). An Early Education degree is preferred.
- Must meet the qualifications of a Teacher as specified by the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
- Should have at least 1040 hours of paid or unpaid staff supervision experience. Should also have at least 9 quarter credits or 90 hours in any combination of accredited courses in Staff Supervision, Human Relations and Child Development.
- Should have demonstrated personnel supervisory skills.
- Should have demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills using good judgment and reasoning skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
