Faith-Filled Explorations: Navigating Liability, Insurance, and Governance
Join a panel of experts to discuss liability related to ELCA schools and centers and insurance, finances, and other governance issues. This event will be moderated by ELEA and panelists will include:
- Terri Robertson is the Executive Assistant for Finance and Accounting at Pacifica Synod, where she has served for 24 years. She has financial expertise, specifically with congregations going through financial struggles or dissolving. She provides organizational guidance to ELCA congregations in her Synod.
- Jennifer Bond, CEO, Nancy Bond Insurance Services, and ELEA Benefits Administrator. Jennifer has worked with congregations with and without schools nationwide, providing insurance insights and guidance.
- Jim Hushagen is a semi-retired business lawyer who maintains a small practice exclusively representing nonprofits, including the Southwestern Washington Synod and several ELCA congregations, one of which operates a school. With a deep understanding of nonprofit governance, Jim is also a principal in The Philanthropy Collective, a consulting firm specializing in strategic planning services and nonprofit governance training. Although not an expert in liability insurance, Jim offers valuable insights into nonprofit governance and is well-versed in the intricacies of a school's relationship with its sponsoring congregation.
