Join ELCA school leaders, staff, and rostered leaders for a five-week book study of Dr. Lisa Miller's The Spiritual Child: The New Science on Parenting for Health and Lifelong Thriving.
Dr. Miller's groundbreaking research shows that spirituality is one of the most powerful resources we can offer the children and families in our care — supporting mental health, resilience, and a lasting sense of purpose. This book study will equip us with practical tools for nurturing the young people in our care — and, for those joining us at our conference this November, will offer a rich foundation for engaging with Dr. Miller when she joins us as our keynote speaker.
Whether you lead a classroom, a congregation, or a school community, this study will give you practical, research-based language for talking about spiritual development — and a shared foundation for the conversations we'll have at the conference.
Each session will include guided discussion of that week's reading, reflection questions connected to our work in schools and ministry settings, and space to explore how Dr. Miller's research applies to our own communities.
Sara Kantorik will lead this book study. Sara serves on the ELEA board and is the director of Adventure Place, a ministry of Advent Lutheran Church in Uniontown, OH.
